The Val Myr Group

Description:

Participants with this training will define early childhood inclusion as it pertains to “children with special needs” or “children with exceptionalities”, which has been adopted as alternatives to saying “children with disabilities.” The term “inclusion” can be used in a broader context relative to opportunities, culture, linguistically diverse groups, age, gender, economics, race/ethnic and numerous additional categories, however, the focal point of this training will be the special needs child. Participants will explore the mandates such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) and the least restrictive environment (LRE) which will review the historical perspective of inclusion with the special needs population in addition to the federal mandates in their regard. Corresponding federal legislation applied to the infants and toddlers (children birth to 3) and their families via the Early Intervention Program will also be discussed. Early childhood inclusion embodies the values, policies, and practices that support the right of every infant and young child and his or her family, regardless of ability, to participate in a broad range of activities and contexts as full members of families, communities, and society.

Child Care Council of Suffolk Incorporated

Description:

Children’s physical development is not just a matter of biology; it is process fueled by experience and opportunity (Bredekamp, 2011). As an early educator, you promote physical development by giving children chances to use their large and small muscles and build their coordination. Cognitive development refers to children’s increasing ability to think as they grow. Children’s brains develop rapidly during early childhood. When we communicate, we express thoughts, ideas, information, and experiences through the way we speak, write, and display nonverbal cues, like facial expressions and crossed arms. We develop these skills at an early age. Children learn to speak and build their vocabularies through direct interaction with more competent speakers, like older children and adults.
