During this fully narrated course trainees will learn important information pertaining to behaviors of toddlers from 18 through 36 months that may be seen as challenging. Helping Children Cope After a Natural Disaster. Hurricane Irene and subsequent flooding situations throughout New York State have caused immense damage and destruction. The New York State Office of Children and Family Services has been working with victims all over the state to help them recover from these disasters. Adults are not the only ones dealing with the aftermath. Children are affected as well. This short video shares information about how to help children in care who are struggling with the aftermath of Hurricane Irene and other natural disasters. We hope this information helps those of you who were affected by these events.

PDP Receives Gold Award from USDLA. On May 4, 2011 the Professional Development Program was awarded a gold level, best practice award for distance learning programming for the on-line training "Preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome" by the United States Distance Learning Association. This award was given for on-line technology in higher education. The USDLA presents international awards for excellence in distance learning for individuals, organizations and companies honoring their outstanding achievements. It is an honor to receive this award for our first on-line training.

Print your Videoconference and e-Learning certificates. You are now able to print your own certificates for e-learning and video conference trainings which you have completed. Simply create an account by entering a username and password and completing the demographic survey. If you have registered for video conferences on-line, or you have registered for e-learning courses you should already have created an account. Then go to the print your certificate section of the My Registration page.

New resource on language building for Home-Based Child Care Providers. The National Institute for Literacy has many resources available via their website, for parents, families and caregivers of young children. Developed from scientifically-based research, these publications offer many strategies for preparing young children to be successful readers. Recently released, was Make Time to Talk, which gives tips on language building for Home-Based Child Care Providers.

National research has shown that the quality of young children's experience in early care and education is directly linked to the amount of specific preparation in early childhood education obtained by the adults providing care for them. The New York State Early Care and Education Core Body of Knowledge Framework (The Framework) outlines the knowledge and skills that professionals who work with young children need to know, understand and have in order to promote children's healthy development. The New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Bureau of Training now offers FREE 24/7 online Mandated Reporter Training in Child Abuse and Neglect/Maltreatment Identification. You can register anytime by visiting www.nysmandatedreporter.org, selecting "Courses Offered" and then clicking to register for "Self-Directed Online Training." This 2-hour web-based training is fully narrated and interactive and features learning exercises customized for the Child Care profession. As you complete each 10-15 minute section, the application saves your progress and allows you up to 30 days to complete the entire course. The Self-Directed Online Mandated Reporter Training course meets the New York State Education Department's mandatory requirements for Training in Child Abuse Identification and Reporting.
