Administration and Management with a Focus on Child Day Care Regulations videos. This videoconference training, with live participation from Janice Molnar PhD, Deputy Commissioner and Kathleen Pickel from the Division of Child Care Services, outlines the newly adopted and proposed child care regulations. The major changes to the adopted Family Child Care and Group Family Child Care regulations are discussed in detail. The regulations will go into effect on May 1, 2014, so it's important that you become familiar with the changes and reviewing this training can help you be prepared for implementation. This video also reviews the proposed changes to the Child Daycare Center and School-Age Child Care regulations so you are familiar with these anticipated changes. Governor Cuomo Announces $200 Million Available to Meet Healthcare and Human Service Needs Resulting from Superstorm Sandy Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that $200 million is available to fund requests from healthcare and human service providers and other community-based organizations following the impact of Superstorm Sandy. The funding is made available by the Superstorm Sandy Supplemental Social Services Block Grant to cover necessary expenses resulting from the storm, including social, health and mental health services for individuals, and for repair, renovation and rebuilding of health care facilities, mental hygiene facilities, child care facilities and other social services facilities. To address the needs of these critical health and human service providers and the populations they serve, the State of New York will distribute $200,034,600 in federal Superstorm Sandy Social Services Block Grant (Sandy SSBG) funding through a public and transparent solicitation for proposals. Sandy SSBG resources are dedicated to covering necessary expenses resulting from Superstorm Sandy, including social, health and mental health services for individuals, and for repair, renovation and rebuilding of health care facilities, mental hygiene facilities, child care facilities and other social services facilities. New York will allocate Sandy SSBG funding to address four Focus Areas: A. Repair, renovation and rebuilding; B. Uncompensated operational costs, including provision of critical services during/after Superstorm Sandy; C. Ongoing support and social services for those impacted by Superstorm Sandy; and D. Let's Move Child Care Spanish Webinar - July 18th. On Thursday, July 18 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm EST the Let's Move Child Care Initiative will be hosting its first webinar in Spanish. This webinar will include Introduction to First Lady, Michelle Obama's, Let's Move Child Care for Spanish speakers. During this webinar early education and child care providers will share how they're getting kids moving, making nutrition fun, and involving families. So you can find out what's working for others and get ideas for your program. An expert from USDA will also be giving an overview of childhood obesity of the LMCC initiative and two providers will be joining to share their stories on how they're promoting nutrition and physical activity in their programs. If you were registered to attend this training originally planned for November 15, 2012 you will automatically be rescheduled for the new date, if the site is able to host. You will also be receiving a reminder postcard in the mail indicating whether or not your site is hosting and that you have been confirmed to attend. The 2012 EIP Scholarship year is now closed, no further applications are being accepted. There is new information for all training organizations utilizing EIP. Helping Children Cope After a Natural Disaster. Hurricane Irene and subsequent flooding situations throughout New York State have caused immense damage and destruction. The New York State Office of Children and Family Services has been working with victims all over the state to help them recover from these disasters. Adults are not the only ones dealing with the aftermath. Children are affected as well. This short video shares information about how to help children in care who are struggling with the aftermath of Hurricane Irene and other natural disasters. We hope this information helps those of you who were affected by these events.

PDP Receives Gold Award from USDLA. On May 4, 2011 the Professional Development Program was awarded a gold level, best practice award for distance learning programming for the on-line training "Preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome" by the United States Distance Learning Association. This award was given for on-line technology in higher education. The USDLA presents international awards for excellence in distance learning for individuals, organizations and companies honoring their outstanding achievements. It is an honor to receive this award for our first on-line training.

Simply create an account by entering a username and password and completing the demographic survey. If you have registered for video conferences on-line, or you have registered for e-learning courses you should already have created an account. Then go to the print your certificate section of the My Registration page.

New resource on language building for Home-Based Child Care Providers. The National Institute for Literacy has many resources available via their website, for parents, families and caregivers of young children. Developed from scientifically-based research, these publications offer many strategies for preparing young children to be successful readers. Recently released, was Make Time to Talk, which gives tips on language building for Home-Based Child Care Providers.

National research has shown that the quality of young children's experience in early care and education is directly linked to the amount of specific preparation in early childhood education obtained by the adults providing care for them. The New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Bureau of Training now offers FREE 24/7 online Mandated Reporter Training in Child Abuse and Neglect/Maltreatment Identification. You can register anytime by visiting www.nysmandatedreporter.org, selecting "Courses Offered" and then clicking to register for "Self-Directed Online Training." This 2-hour web-based training is fully narrated and interactive and features learning exercises customized for the Child Care profession. As you complete each 10-15 minute section, the application saves your progress and allows you up to 30 days to complete the entire course. The Self-Directed Online Mandated Reporter Training course meets the New York State Education Department's mandatory requirements for Training in Child Abuse Identification and Reporting.
