Early Childhood Education and Training Program

More About Regulator Training

The mission of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Bureau of Early Childhood Services, is to promote and protect the health, safety and development of children in out-of-home child day care settings. The Regulator Training Program supports this mission by providing instruction on a variety of topics relevant to the work child day care regulatory staff:

  • Child day care licensors and registrars
  • New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) Early Childhood Education Consultants
  • NYC DOHMH Public Health Sanitarians
  • OCFS Fire Safety Representatives

Through these trainings, regulatory staff can enhance their skills for monitoring regulatory compliance by, and offering effective technical assistance to, child day care providers throughout New York State. Trainings are currently offered via live classroom courses and iLinc computer-based training courses. Additional training methods, such as online training, are currently in development.

The Professional Development Program conducts periodic Child Day Care Regulatory Staff Training Institutes to provide new child day care regulators with a solid foundation for their field work and interactions with providers. In addition to the Institutes, PDP offers ongoing training in the following topics for all child day care regulatory staff:
